First Year Programmes
Standard applicants will be assessed solely on the basis of educational qualifications with the exception of restricted programmes.
The ranking of applicants will be based on Leaving Certificate points rating in accordance with Table 1. Points will be calculated on the basis of the six best subjects in one leaving certificate only. Eligibility requirements in terms of Leaving Certificate subjects may be satisfied over two or more Leaving Certificates.
Candidates holding a leaving certificate prior to 1992 will be scored as per Table 2.
Restricted Programmes
Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design*
Applicants will be requested to attend for portfolio assessment in April/May.
The portfolio carries 600 points: applicants scoring 240 points or over are deemed to have passed the assessment.
The portfolio score of eligible applicants will be added to the Leaving Certificate points (calculated in Tables 1, 2 and 3 and on the basis of the six best subjects in one Leaving Certificate only) or interview score if a mature applicant. Applicants will be ranked on the basis of this aggregate score.
Notes
* Art and Design applicants presenting FETAC awards will be ranked on the aggregate score.
FETAC Scoring
A full FETAC award normally contains eight modules and may be accumulated over more than one academic year. In such cases the applicant must apply to FETAC for a full award.
An overall points score is calculated based on the best eight modules presented. For modules with a credit value of 1, scores are awarded as follows:
-
Pass: 20 points
-
Merit: 35 points
-
Distinction: 50 points
If modules have credit values lesser or greater than one, the credits are adjusted accordingly. Scores are similarly adjusted to take account of the module level. (See www.cao.ie and www.fetac.ie)
Notice
The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is introducing a new Common Awards and Scoring system from 2012. All legacy awards will be recognised. Full details will be published on the FETAC website as they become available.
