What's Happening

As part of their Event Management module, students on the BBS Business and BBS Administration and Information Systems recently visited Dublin and London to review the cities as event destinations.

The students organised and financed the trips themselves. They were responsible for organising the itinerary, booking flights, accommodation and liaising with various city authorities regarding relevant attractions.

The project assisted students in crystallising the important features of event management: being organised, budgeting, marketing and the event experience.

As noted by the lecturers, Ms Monica Nielsen and Ms Carol Killarney, “Event management can be a challenging job. If you do all your duties perfectly, it is seldom people praise you for your efficiency. But, if you fail to deliver on customer expectations you will be out of business very quickly’.

The students are to be congratulated for immersing themselves in the project and delivering outstanding events. The experience of visiting London and Dublin broadened the student’s perspective on seeking employment in both cities and they identified a number of multinational companies that they could target when they graduate.

The students felt the trip to London in particular was ‘life changing’ and one of their best experiences in college.
