BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ART AND DESIGN (PART-TIME)
What is this course about?
This Course provides a programme of study in painting for those who cannot attend college on a full-time basis. The student is introduced to the visual language, materials and concepts of art practice. Attendance is for one day each week of the academic year, on Wednesdays.
What subjects will I study?
Painting (using oil based and water based paints), History of Art Theory.
Career Opportunities
The Course equips the student for a career as a professional painter, community art worker, arts administrator, gallery curator, art teacher (following further study), illustrator and many related areas.

You will be required to present a portfolio of work for assessment and attend an interview. The portfolio should consist of drawings and colour studies from observation, paintings in various media, and possibly a project showing visual investigation of a chosen theme. You should also include sketchbooks, ideas books, photographs, etc., but works should not exceed twenty pieces.
What follow-on study opportunities are available?
If you gain 50% or higher in the Bachelor of Arts Degree you may apply for a place on the one year add-on Honours Degree Course in Fine Art at the Cluain Mhuire Campus, Galway.
