Outdoor Education programmes

GMIT offers three different Outdoor Education Programmes. These are:
BA in Outdoor Education and Leisure (level 7)
BA in Outdoor Education and Geography (level 7)
BA (Hons) one year add-on degree in Outdoor Education (level 8)
Entry to the Outdoor Programmes:
Entry to the level 7 degrees is directly through the CAO system. While entry to the level 8 add-on degree is by direct application to the admissions office in GMIT. If you hold a FETAC level 6 in certain outdoor related courses you may be eligible for entry to year 2 of the BA in Outdoor Education and Leisure. Holders of a Edexel HND awards who also hold adventure leader / instructor awards may be eligible for direct entry into year 3 of the BA in outdoor education and leisure. Again direct entry to either 2nd or 3rd year of the outdoor programmes is made to the admissions office in GMIT, Galway. The closing date for direct applicants is usually around the beginning of April.

Career paths
The career paths of graduates of graduates is extremely varied reflective the broad nature of the Outdoor sector and the opportunities that exist within it. Graduate careers have varied from further study to instructing, youth work, entrepreneurs, lecturing, trainers and event management to list but a few.
