BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) IN COMPUTER SERVICES MANAGEMENT


Main Areas of Study
The programme provides the student with the knowledge needed for the planning, implementation and management of computing resources and service delivery.

Graduates will be equipped to carry out a range of functions including the following:

  • Manage the provision of a computer service in a wide variety of organisations.

  • Develop and implement policies and strategies to align investment in IT with the attainment of business goals and objectives.

  • Critically analyse data communication requirements of an organization and the support technologies on offer.

  • Plan and manage significant IT projects.

  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge in chosen areas of study.

Programme Modules
Modules may include the following:

IT Service Management, Strategic IT Management, Project, Data Communications, Systems Architecture, Distributed Systems, Software Design, Management and the Business Environment, Security and Cryptography, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining.

Elective modules (three to be chosen): Data Communications, Systems Architecture, Distributed Systems, Software Design, Management and the Business Environment, Security and Cryptography, Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining.

Post-graduate Studies
GMIT honours (Level 8) qualifications are recognised world-wide for post-graduate entry.

 This programme is recognised by the Teaching Council for progression to the Post-graduate Diploma in Education, on completion of which, graduates are qualified to teach Computer Studies to Leaving Certificate in second level schools.
