BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTING IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT


Why Study Information Technology Support?
This programme provides graduates with the necessary education and skills to operate and carry out the duties and responsibilities of an information technology support person. On completion, graduates will be capable of network management and trouble shooting, specifying, configuring and managing large multi-user/networked computer systems, planning, organising and providing computer services particularly in SME. They will also acquire specialised skills in the IT support supervisor function.

Programme Modules
Programme modules may include the following:

Computer Networks 3 (Includes CISCO systems), Computer Organisation, Computer Services Management, Project, Software Development 3, Database Systems 2 (Includes Oracle Administration), E-Business, Quality Implementation and Testing.

Career Opportunities
Graduates gain employment in IT companies in both public and private sectors, in large manufacturing companies, financial institutions, healthcare industries and in electronic organisations.

The Programme Board has developed specific links with the following: ADC, ACS, Brothers of Charity, Compaq, CMS Peripherals, Dell, Esat BT, Lionbridge Technologies, Western Care, Mayo Connacht Gold, Mayo VEC, Galway, Mayo and Roscommon County Councils and Teagasc.

Follow-on Studies
Students may progress to the one year add-on Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Services Management at Castlebar Campus or other Institutes.
