A GMIT campus since 1998, Cluain Mhuire is located less than a mile from Galway city centre on the main Monivea Road.
An art piece in itself, the Cluain Mhuire campus of GMIT is based in an old Redemptorist monastery. The high ceilings, wide windows and spacious rooms give the revamped building an instant appeal.
Art and Design and Film and Television at Cluain Mhuire campus have rapidly been gaining a reputation for high standards in the fields of fine art, design and media. The annual graduate exhibitions and screenings showcase the quality of the work being produced by these creative arts students.
GMIT Graduate Art Show 2013
This year's GMIT Graduate Art Exhibition opens on Saturday, 1 June from 2pm, and runs until Saturday 8 June, 11am to 7pm daily with a late opening Thursday 6 June, to 9pm. The graduate exhibition gives GMIT Art & Design honours degree students an excellent opportunity to showcase their talents within the context of their educational environment. The event is organised by the final year students themselves with support from their lecturers and staff.
The title of this year's show, Niche, is inspired by the architectural details of the beautiful building in which the GMIT art college is located, formerly a Redemptorist Monastery . The exhibition shows a range of exciting work in the core disciplines of textiles, ceramics, paint, print and sculpture, as well as photography, video installations, documentary films and performance. It includes artists' talks and tours of the centre which will be of particular interest to future students and anyone with a general interest in the visual arts.
