In May 2013, I completed the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering
programme in GMIT. I found my time at GMIT to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The
course builds on the skills developed in the Ordinary degree course with the focus on
sustainable construction using integrated civil engineering technologies and in particular the
use of Building Information Modelling.
On completion of my studies, RPS offered me a Graduate Engineer position. Over the past
two years I have worked on a wide variety of projects in the areas of commercial, transport
and civil structures for clients such as the Office of Public Works and Local Authorities. I
found that the skills developed in the Advanced Civil Engineering Software Module in
particular to be invaluable. I developed a wide ranging knowledge of civil engineering
software and how this software can be practically applied to real world scenario projects.
Since joining RPS I have developed and expanded my skill set through CPD training which
has helped me on the road toward Chartership. My studies at GMIT have given me the skill
set needed to integrate into a work environment and work as part of a team.
