Construction Economics and Quantity Surveying Graduate - Malgorzata Kieronska

My experience in my four years in GMIT studying quantity surveying was a very enjoyable time with a variety of learning experiences. In first year we gained an insight into the role of the Quantity Surveyor. We learned the basics of measurement ,estimating and the various technologies through some theory mixed with many practicals.

Second year we enhanced our skills and we were exposed to group and individual projects and we gained confidence in our ability to communicate by practicing our presentation skills.

Third year brought us to experience work placement where our knowledge gained in class was tested in the real world. We also gained experience in procurement, contracts and site management.

Year 4 was a great experience as we engaged in research through our dissertation topics. Cost Management of Building Services and Capital Works Management Framework gave us a valuable insight into the workings of the new Government Contracts. I found the course very relevant to the profession of the Quantity Surveyor,
a profession I thoroughly enjoy as it give me a flexible career where demand is world wide'.
