La Rochelle/Bordeaux 2012 – Summary
12 students and 3 lecturers from The Hotel School enjoyed an amazing foodie experience in La Rochelle and Bordeaux in France from 28th March to 1st April 2012.
Jason Bourke, Alan Breslin, Oisin Collins, Jason Donnellan, Anthony McAuley, Mark Reynolds and Darragh Tiernan of HC in Culinary Arts, Year 2 and Nicolle Corrigan, Gloria Felez, Ronan McHugh, Eileanoir Ni Chuaig and Sarah Scahill of BB in Culinary Arts Year 2 with Colin Gilligan, Jacinta Dalton and Anne Brindley picnicked in Paris on 28th March, explored food and drink products in La Rochelle on 29th and 30th March with in-class tuition in our partner's Lycée Hôtelier de La Rochelle followed by a visit of the town of La Rochelle and the Aquarium, a visit to the Musée de Cognac and Hennessy's Distillery in Cognac. They had the unique opportunity of an introduction to the manufacture of Grand Marnier followed by a tasting and lunch in the Château de Bourg Charentes. On 31st March a guided tour of Bordeaux was followed by a wine tasting in the Bar à Vin de Bordeaux and a walk around the Marché des Capucins. Each evening the meal in a different restaurant stimulated tastebuds, comparisons and contrasts, critiques of service and presentation. An exciting exploration of French cuisine in two gastronomic cities!

Winner of 6 ELL Awards in Spain, Ireland, Norway, Belgium, Slovenia and the CALICO Award in the USA This project is now being extended to 11 languages with the addition of Irish, Finnish, German, Italian and Polish, a new sector Reception/Accommodation and will be available from Nov 2013.
GUIDED TOURS OF BUNRATTY FOLK PARK WITH TOURISM YEAR 2
On Friday 27th January 2012, a beautiful sunny day, 13 students from the HC in Business & Tourism Year 2 programme conducted their first guided tours in French: Nicole, Olivia, Sandra, John, Aisling, Donal, Christopher, Bukky, Eibhlinn, Sinéad, and in German: Dayna, Michael and Asad. They were accompanied by Paul (Guiding), Maeve (German) and Anne (French) on this enjoyable interactive assessment combining Guiding with Languages.
