Introduction to Drawing  

Course Description:

The course will be showing the elements that form the basics for the perception that allows to make a realistic drawings.

The exercises will work on the skills that are require to draw an object, person, landscape or anything that you see from still life, which are not actual drawing skills but perception skills, and are the following:

One: the perception of edges

Two: the perception of spaces

Three: the perception of relationships

Four: the perception of lights and shadows

Five: the perception of the whole or gestalt.

This teaching method was developed by an art teacher called Betty Edwards and was related to the experiments that Roger Sperry made public on how the brain works and the different areas that it uses for different tasks.

List of materials you should bring with you

Graphite pencils: wide range of grades (minimum 2H, H, 2B, 4B, 6B and 8B)

Sheets: The big green Sketch Pad (available in Easons)

Charcoal

Sharpener

Eraser

Masking tape

Ruler

Course Tutor:

Luz Martinez graduated in Art History from the UPV (University of the Basque Country) in 2002. Self-taught at drawing from an early age, she continued her education in drawing and painting in Marcelo Laugelli´s workshop in Barcelona in 2004. It was here that she started as a drawing teacher, work that she has carried on in Galway.

Fee: €150

Duration: One evening a week for 7 weeks from 6pm - 8pm
