Attic Conversion

Course Description:

Aim of Course:

To illustrate best practice issues related to attic conversion processes,  including compliance with all statutory requirements and regulations.

Who Course is for:

Homeowners and others interested in understanding how the conversion process works, and cost effective upgrading of their homes. No technical knowledge necessary. Power Point will be the main medium for presenting the course content. 

Course Content:

Statutory environment: planning, building regulations, Dept. of Environment recommendations. Application of Parts A, B, D, E, F and L of Building regulations. Product certification. 

Structural considerations including worked examples. Dormer construction.

Fire considerations including worked examples.

Environmental and insulation considerations including worked examples. Drylining.

Warm roof concepts. Air tightness.

Access and egress considerations including worked examples.

Department of Environment recommendations on staircase design.

Daylight and ventilation considerations including worked examples.

Drainage, hot and cold water supply and space heating considerations including worked examples.

Choosing technical advisors and contractors.

A special emphasis is placed on worked examples and question and answer sessions.

Course Tutor:

Tom is a qualified Civil Engineer and runs a Civil and Structural engineering practice specialising in Civil and Structural. Previously he was employed by Homebond as Senior Housing Advisor with responsibility for the management of all Homebond projects and activities in Counties Galway and Mayo. Founder of Western Homebuilders Training Network: - a non profit body to facilitate innovative and best practice technical training at a local level for contractors in the West of Ireland.

Duration: One class per week, for 7 weeks from 7.00pm – 9.00pm
