CAO Info sessions (13th, 16th and 22nd Jan) Author: Press Office Date Article Written Monday 11th January 2010 Three separate public information sessions on CAO programme choices and part-time programmes in GMIT take place in GMIT this month. In Castlebar on Wednesday 13th January (7-9pm), Dublin Road on Saturday 16th January (10am-1pm), and Letterfrack on Friday 22nd January (1-3pm). Secondary school pupils and mature learners are invited to attend these events to learn about the range of courses and career options available in the college and its various campuses. Programmes are offered on a full-time and some part-time basis in areas such as Business and IT (Galway and Castlebar), Engineering and Science (Galway and Castlebar), Hotel and Catering (Galway), Nursing & Health Sciences (Castlebar), Humanities & Creative Arts (Galway and Castlebar), Furniture Design & Manufacture (Letterfrack), and Outdoor Education (Castlebar). GMIT is the top performer in the Institute of Technology sector (IOTI) when it comes to providing equal access to education over the past two academic years, new data from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) shows. The college had the highest intake of mature students from 2007 to 2009, among all the Institutes of Technology. Equal Access data relating to the academic years 2007/8 and 2008/9 focuses on the social, economic and cultural background of students. It found that GMIT had the largest number of registered first year mature students during these two years, with 338 mature students registered in the 2008/9 academic year and 311 the previous year, a total of 649 in two years. GMIT Registrar, Mr Bernard O’Hara, says: “GMIT is committed to facilitating access to students from under represented categories in higher education. These two open days are great opportunities for people to speak to our staff about their career options and CAO choices.” For full information on all courses and services in GMIT, visit www.gmit.ie or call the GMIT Galway Admission Office, Galway, tel. 091-742304; Castlebar campus, tel. 094-9025700 or www.gmit.ie/castlebar; Letterfrack campus, tel. 091 742650 or www.gmit.ie/Life-at-GMIT/letterfrack/ |
