Digital media students in GMIT are to hold an open day on Monday 22nd February to showcase new developments in website design and computer art.

Second and third year students will display a number of digital media projects they have developed over the past 18 months as part of their B.Sc. in Digital Media and Business Computing.

Members of the local arts community and the general public are invited to view the work in GMIT’s Cluain Mhuire Campus on Monday, 22nd February, from 10am to 12noon.

Lecturer Dr Robert J. Loughnane, GMIT Dept of Maths & Computing, says the event is an opportunity for students, local artists and the business community to exchange views and develop ideas towards commercial ventures.

“The development of these digital media projects came about as a result of the fusion between art and the plethora of graphics and video software out there. Indeed many of our students have an art background” explains Dr Loughnane.

“The students are pushing the boundaries of software products such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, Texgen, Art of illusion, Ultimate Paint and many other software applications. The resulting art creations are currently being used to enhance screen backgrounds and web site presentation.”

The B.Sc. in Digital Media and Business Computing programme is pushing the boundaries of computer art development and is continually being updated to reflect all modern developments in information and communications technology.
