GMIT School of Business is delighted to offer a new postgraduate accounting programme for non-accounting graduates, commencing September.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (Level 9) is a one-year conversion programme for non-accounting graduates of level 8 programmes and offers a direct pathway towards a full-time career in accounting.

A highly focused and practical programme, it provides learners with a thorough grounding in the fundamental theories, concepts, principles and practices essential to the pursuit of a fulfilling career in the area of professional accountancy.

Carmel Brennan, Head of Dept of Accounting & Information Systems, GMIT, says: “At this time of year students who have just finished their level 8 programmes are considering what to do with their future. Some may be considering changing direction or complementing their existing qualification with another, so this new offering gives business graduates further postgraduate choices in Galway.”

“A major advantage of this programme is that it offers generous exemptions from the professional accounting bodies.  Existing graduates who pursue accounting may find they are advantaged in their search for trainee positions due to their diverse backgrounds and maturity.”

“Accounting is a well-established profession and has not suffered as much as other careers in the current recession. It’s a long-established discipline within GMIT and many of the college’s lecturers have acted as examiners and lecturers for the professional accounting bodies.” add Ms Brennan.

Applicants for the programme will be expected to hold, at a minimum, an honours 2.2 non-accounting degree or an approved equivalent non-accounting qualification.  Students who have an honours bachelor degree (Level 8) or equivalent in accounting from outside Ireland are also eligible to apply.

Application details including details of price, open evening and direct application forms are available on www.gmit.ie/business  or by calling 091-742262.
