An exciting exhibition of work by final-year art students in GMIT opened to the general public in Galway on Sunday last and will run until Sunday 19th June.

Some 82 degree students are showcasing ceramics, painting, printmaking, sculpture and textiles in the Cluain Mhuire campus, Galway city. The event was opened by former Minister for the Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Mr Michael D Higgins on Sunday (12th June).

Fifty-two of the art students are completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Fine Art in Ceramics, or Painting, Printmaking or Sculpture, ten are completing a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Design in Textiles, and twenty students are completing the flexible learning six-year part-time Bachelor of Art & Design degree in Painting.

The exhibition includes many figurative pieces, landscapes and new-media installations. Katharine West, Head of GMIT’s Department of Art and Design, says “the show is as diverse as the student body and showcases a very strong combination of traditional and contemporary approaches to Art and Design practice.”

The GMIT Graduate Art Show is one of the highlights of the Galway arts calendar with hundreds flocking to view the exhibition every year including friends and families of the students, art lovers and art critics.

The GMIT Graduate Art Exhibition opening times are: Monday and Tuesday, 10 am to 5pm, Wednesday and Thursday, 10am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
