Four GMIT Accountancy students were runners up in the Irish final of the prestigious Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Global Business Challenge (GBC).

GMIT students Paul Nicholson from Tuam, Co. Galway, Qaseen Mehdi, Renmore, Galway City, Michael Forde, Dunmore, Co Galway, and James Crowley, Galway City, competed against eleven other teams from colleges and business schools around Ireland.  They have just completed the final year of a three year Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting degree (Level 8).  They were mentored for the tightly-fought CIMA challenge by their GMIT Business School lecturer Nicholas Canny.

The international business management competition, designed to bring out the best in potential business leaders among young people, is held in partnership with Barclays and local sponsors BPP each year. UCC are this year’s winners, with GMIT and UL runners up.

GMIT Accounting lecturer Nicholas Canny says the competition offers students the opportunity to showcase their business acumen & analytical skills on an international platform: “The competition gives an insight into the ability and talent of future business leaders. The GMIT performance this year, and in recent years, demonstrates the comprehensively high standard achieved in the GMIT accounting degree.”
