It comprises some 40 pieces including paintings, photographs, ceramics, sculpture, installations and video work from a number of film & tv students. The show brings the students from their base in the nearby Cluain Mhuire campus to the larger Dublin Road campus where their creativity and emerging talents can be viewed by the wider college community as well as the general public. The exhibition will be shown in the Café Foyer of the IT Learning Resource Centre for two weeks. This is the third year of the “Proximity” exhibition at the Dublin Road campus. Some 31 students are involved in this year’s event, which is supported by lecturers, past students and many generous sponsors. Exhibition Committee Chairperson, student Olive Fox, says “This exhibition will appeal to all tastes as the pieces range from contemporary to traditional. The works are all available for purchase.” “This is the first exhibition for many of the students and we’d urge people to come and have a look and perhaps give us some feedback.” Mary MacCague, Head of the School of Humanities, GMIT, says “Proximity once again showcases the work of our Art and Design and Film and Television students. It is a unique exhibition organised from start to finish by the students working on their own initiative, and will prepare them well for future exhibitions and shows in their professional lives.” “Proximity” opens on Monday 15th March, 8pm, in the Café Foyer, Dublin Road campus, Galway, and runs until Friday 26th March.
