GMIT’s College of Tourism & Arts is hosting a public lecture on current liquor licensing legislation, by Constance Cassidy, Senior Counsel, at the Galway (Dublin Road) campus, on Monday next, 6 February, 4pm (Theatre 903).
The event is for students studying GMIT Hotel, Tourism, Event and Retail programmes, and is also open to the public including members of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, the Irish Hospitality Institute and the Restaurants Association of Ireland.
Constance Cassidy is regarded as the leading authority on licensing laws. She has published several books on the subject including 'Cassidy on Licensing Laws', which is regarded as the definitive guide on licensing laws in Ireland. She and her husband, Eddie Walsh, SC, own Lissadell House in Co Sligo.
Lecturer and event organiser Colin Gilligan says: “This is a great opportunity for students and guests from the industry to engage with Constance Cassidy who is the leading legal authority on licensing laws in Ireland. The audience will be brought up to date on the legal developments in the industry as Ms Cassidy’s talk will cover, among other issues, the current liquor licensing legislation (the 2008 Act), licensing for concerts and special events, and the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill 2015.”
Gerry Talbot, Head of Dept of Culinary Arts and the Services Industry, says: “It is vital that our students are kept informed on all our licensing laws and any proposed changes as they prepare for the workplace. This open lecture will present all the facts and allow our students to engage confidently in any debates on this issue.”
