Sharon Shannon and guest Munday to perform in finale concert (8 November)

Students and staff in GMIT’s Mayo campus are gearing up for the campus’ Gathering Reunion taking place in Castlebar on Friday 8 November. Hundreds of graduates are expected to attend the reception in St Mary’s Hall on campus at 6.30pm followed by a major concert in the TF Royal Theatre at 8.30pm.

Guests at the St Mary’s Hall reception at 6.30pm will be entertained by college musicians and the Male Voice Choir, and a large exhibition of photographs showing hundreds of past and present students will also be on display. A special commemorative series of photographs of the Old St Mary's Hospital will also be unveiled in St Mary's Hall on campus.

Following the welcome reception, guests will attend the GMIT Gathering Concert with Sharon Shannon and her band and guest artist Mundy. This concert will take place in the nearby TF Royal Theatre, commencing at 8.30pm.

GMIT lecturer and event organiser Clodagh Geraghty says: “This is a celebratory event as we gather twenty years of graduates who can share their experiences about the role GMIT has played in their lives. It is also a public celebration of 20 years of GMIT in Castlebar which is why we are delighted to celebrate this event with the public.”

“We invite the Castlebar community to attend both the reception in St Mary’s Hall and the concert in the TF later that evening (tickets required). The photographic exhibition will be of great interest to students, graduates and members of the public.”

All proceeds for the GMIT Gathering Reunion event will go the Emergency Student Welfare Fund and Pieta House.

If members of the public wish to attend this finale concert, tickets are available from the college (students and graduates pay €10; tickets for others are €20). Please telephone 094 90 43162 and 094 90 43197 or email supresidentcbar@gmit.ie and clodagh.geraghty@gmit.ie
