Increase in number of companies and organisations at Careers Fair

The Careers Office in GMIT hosted its Graduate Careers Fair this week (2 Oct) at the Dublin Road (Galway) campus, with over eighty companies and organisations taking stands at the event. The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Dennis Naughton, and Galway East TD Sean Canney visited the fair which is held annually for GMIT students and graduates and is also open to members of the public.

Bridie Killoran, GMIT Careers Officer says “It was great to see a variety of new companies from various sectors such as Software, Finance, Marketing and Sales, Agriculture, Construction, and Medical Device, in addition to the many companies who return each year to meet our students. The increase in new companies attending each year is representative of growth nationally in areas such as Engineering, Science, Construction, IT / Computer Software, and Financial Services.”

Dr Fergal Barry, President of GMIT, says: “The event is an important part of the student and academic calendar where they and staff get a chance to meet representatives from leading recruitment firms face to face, providing all the latest information, employment and career trends and advice.”
The schedule included CV Clinics, advice on career opportunities, emerging job growth areas and trends, as well as information on postgraduate study, volunteering, public and private sector job opportunities and some company presentations.  Some of the companies who took stands included Accenture, Lidl, Cisco, Ericsson, ABP Food Group, Wayfair, IBM, Revenue Commissioners, Smartbear, Kepak, SAP, JJ Rhatigan, Linesight and many more.

One of the new companies attending was CSGI telecommunications company. “CSGI was delighted to be taking part in the GMIT Career fair for the very first time. We have a number of Dev Op roles open in Galway and were able to meet former and recent graduates to discuss these new exciting roles in more detail with them,” says a spokesperson.
