Open Evening on GMIT Accounting programmes (Galway, 9 Feb, 6.30pm)

An open evening on accounting programmes offered by GMIT will take place in the Galway (Dublin Road) campus on Thursday, 9 February, 6.30 to 8.30pm.  Information will be available on all GMIT’s offerings including technician, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes available in the Galway and Mayo campus.

Hosted by the School of Business, the open evening will focus on accounting as a career, as demand grows for graduates of these programmes. The 2016 GradIreland Survey states “Accounting and financial management has the highest proportion of available jobs, making up almost one third of the total, and overtaking banking and financial services as the sector employing most graduates.

The event in the New Foyer will be attended by current students and lecturing staff as well as recent graduates and representatives from the Professional Accounting bodies.
           
The Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting (GA181) is highly practical and career focused.  It receives the maximum exemptions obtainable for an undergraduate programme from Chartered Accountants Ireland, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants. 

Head of Dept Eamon Walsh, says: “This programme is regularly updated to receive excellent exemptions from the professional accounting bodies.  As accountants play a very central role in managing and directing businesses, there will always be demand for these skills and many students are taking advantage of the global nature of accounting and using it to travel the world”. 

The School of Business offers the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting which is designed in response to the large number of graduates who wish to change their career focus.  This highly focussed and practical programme offers a direct pathway to a full-time career in accounting.

GMIT Mayo campus offers a Level 7 Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Financial Management – GA878.  This three year programme provides students with a specialised education in accounting and financial management.  Students who have completed previous Level 6 qualifications or the IAT qualification may be eligible for advanced entry to the programme. Graduates of this programme are eligible to progress to our one year Level 8 add-on Bachelor of Business Honours in Accounting.  In addition, students have the option to study our Level 8 ab inito Bachelor of Business Honours – GA 886 which offers students the option to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Honours in Accounting subject to specific elective choices.
