Over 2,100 students will be conferred with awards at GMIT's annual Conferring ceremonies which take place in Galway and Mayo over four days this month (November), commencing Thursday 13 November.

Two new awards will be conferred at the Galway sessions this year for the first time - Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Forensic Science and Analysis and Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Culinary Arts Management.

The GMIT Letterfrack Conferring takes place on Friday 21 November on campus commencing 12 noon.  Some 100 students will be conferred with awards in Furniture Design, & Manufacture, and Teacher Education.

The Mayo campus Conferring takes place the following Friday, 28 November, in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, commencing 11.30am. Over 350 students will receive awards in Business, Humanities and Technology, Nursing, Health Sciences & Social Studies and Outdoor Education.

The GMIT Letterfrack Conferring will mark a significant milestone in the campus’ provision of teacher education programmes; this year’s graduates will bring the total number of newly qualified teachers over the 100 mark since the teacher education programmes began in 2006.

Dermot O’Donovan, Head of GMIT Letterfrack, says the programme is going from strength to strength. “Graduate teachers are qualified to teach the post primary subjects of Design and Communication Graphics and Construction Studies. In a very competitive employment market, graduates have been very successful in finding employments due to their strong blend of skills in pedagogy, design, manufacturing and ICT. This programme, now entitled BSc (Hons) in Education (Design Graphics and Construction), has just been successfully re-accredited by the Teaching Council. We wish all our newly qualified teachers the best of luck in their future careers”.

GMIT Registrar Michael Hannon says: “Congratulations to our 2,113 graduates. We are confident they will be successful in finding employment or progressing to further study. GMIT has an excellent graduate employment rate, with only 8% looking for a job nine months after graduating last year.”
