Inniu (Deárdaoin 19 Meán Fómhair) sheol Institiúid Teicneolaíochta na Gaillimhe-Maigh Eo (GMIT) a scéim oifigiúil Ghaeilge a leagann amach raon na réimsí ina dtiomnaíonn GMIT í féin d’fheabhas a chur ar na seirbhísí dátheangacha le linn na dtrí bliana seo chugainn.

Sheol Uachtarán GMIT Micheál Ó Cearmada agus comhaltaí de chuid Bhord Rialaithe GMIT Scéim Ghaeilge GMIT 2013 – 2016 go hoifigiúil. Is í an dara scéim Ghaeilge í de chuid na hInstitiúide agus cuireann sí leis an dul chun cinn a rinneadh le linn thréimhse na chéad scéime.

Leanann an scéim nua d’oibleagáidí na hInstitiúide faoi Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla 2003 a chomhlíonadh. Fágann sí mar cheangal go mbeidh an Ghaeilge cuimsithe i bhfoilseacháin GMIT, i láithreán gréasáin GMIT, agus i gcórais bhainistithe foghlama GMIT, agus i leathnú ar na seirbhísí dátheangacha don chustaiméir.

Tá an Institiúid tiomnaithe freisin d’inniúlacht Ghaeilge na foirne a fheabhsú trí oiliúint agus fhorbairt, Neartófar freisin a páirtíocht le heagraíochtaí Gaeilge, cuir i gcás Gaillimh le Gaeilge.

Lena chois sin, déanann GMIT dhá chlár a thairiscint trí Ghaeilge amháin – Ard-Dioplóma i nGaeilge Fheidhmeach agus Aistriúchán agus M.Sc. i nGaeilge Fheidhmeach agus Aistriúchán. Déantar an dá chlár sin a reáchtáil i gcomhpháirtíocht le Europus Teo le tacaíocht ó Údarás na Gaeltachta.

Deir Uachtarán GMIT Micheál Ó Cearmada: “Is ábhar ríméid do GMIT an dara scéim dá cuid le seirbhís Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ar fud na hInstitiúide a sheoladh.”

“Tá an scéim seo comhaontaithe leis An gCoimisinéir Teanga agus cuireann sí leis an obair a rinneadh sa chéad scéim. Beidh mar thoradh uirthi soláthar feabhsaithe seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge in GMIT sna blianta atá romhainn.”

New scheme outlines areas committed to bilingual services
Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) today (Thursday 19 September) launched its official Irish language scheme which sets out a range of areas in which the Institute has committed to improving bilingual services over the next three years.

The GMIT Irish Language Scheme 2013 – 2016 was formally launched in the Galway campus by the President of GMIT Michael Carmody and members of the GMIT Governing Body. It is the Institute’s second Irish language scheme and builds on the progress achieved during the period of the first scheme.

The new scheme continues to adhere to the Institute’s obligations under the Official Languages Act 2003. It commits to ensuring the inclusion of Irish content in GMIT publications, the GMIT website and learning management systems, and an extension of bilingual customer services.

The Institute has also committed to raising staff competency in Irish through training and development.  Engagement with Irish language organisations, for example Gaillimh le Gaeilge, will also be strengthened.

In addition, GMIT offers two programmes exclusively through Irish – Ard-Dioplóma i nGaeilge Fheidhmeach agus Aistriúchán and M.Sc. i nGaeilge Fheidhmeach agus Aistriúchán. Both of these programmes are run in partnership with Europus Teo and supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta.

GMIT President Michael Carmody says: “GMIT is very pleased to launch its second scheme for the promotion of Irish language service across the Institute.”

“This scheme has been agreed with An Coimisinéir Teanga and builds on the work carried out in the first scheme. It will lead to enhanced provision of services through Irish in GMIT in the coming years.”
