MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTING
The Masters of Science in Computing is a fully accredited taught masters degree delivered by the Maths & Computing Department, School of Science, at the main Galway Campus of GMIT. The programme provides an opportunity to new graduates and established computing professionals for personal career development by undertaking formal post-graduate education on a full-time basis.
The Master in Science in Computing at GMIT endeavours to develop in participants advanced thinking and technical know-how in a range of inter-related technology-centric disciplines.
Programme Duration
One-year full-time.
This is a full-time programme and can be completed in one academic year, commencing October 2011.
To be eligible for the award of Master of Science (Computing), all participants must successfully complete four (4) taught modules as well as a research element.

Each of the four taught modules account for 10 credits, while the research element comprises the remaining 20 credits of the required total of 60 credits. The research element is supported though a Research Methods for Computer Scientists module as well as a Research Seminar workshop, both of which aim to develop core competencies in critical thinking, research techniques, research methodologies, technical writing, literature critique, and research dissemination.
Entry Requirements
The normal entry requirement is an honours degree in computing (software development) or computer engineering (with a significant level of software development). Students expecting to achieve such a qualification in 2011 may apply.
International students are required to meet an English language standard equivalent to TOEFL (600) / IELTS (6.5).
Fees
Tuition fees for full-time students of the European Union will be substantially subsidised under the Information Technology Investment Fund of the Higher Education Authority, Ireland. As a consequence of such funding support, the net fee payable (full-time EU students) will be circa €2,500 (subject to confirmation).
Programme fees for non-EU nationals are currently €10,000 (under review).
Application and Closing Date
Application for places on the MSc in Computing will be by way of the standard GMIT Application Form for add-on programmes.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is October 3rd, 2011.
