  Competitive manufacturing in a developed economy relies on intensive innovation that is characterised by higher skills, high levels of research & development, more focused markets, and high levels of flexibility. These qualities are generally accepted as the underpinning for longer-term sustainability of manufacturing and are also the key qualities, among others, that describe the microeconomics of future ‘smart’ economies.

27 November 2010 Education Conference
  "Perspectives on a Moving Target: Is Change the New Constant in Higher Education?"
  GMIT will host the first in a series of bi-annual conferences focusing on education, commencing Saturday 27th November 2010, at the Dublin Road campus, Galway. The inaugural conference will acknowledge the significant contribution to education of Mr Bernard O'Hara, Registrar GMIT, on his retirement. It will focus on education, its history, evolution, and the challenges facing Higher Education.
