Dr Patrick Tobin
Dr Paddy Tobin is the Head of School of the School of Design & Creative Arts at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. The school includes three departments, the Centre for Creative Arts & Media (Galway), the National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology (Letterfrack), and the Dept of Creative Education (Galway & Letterfrack).
Paddy joined GMIT in 1996 and has previously been a lecturer on the Galway and Letterfrack campuses, programme chair in Letterfrack, and Head of Department at the Centre for Creative Arts & Media.
During his time in GMIT, Paddy has been involved in a wide variety of activities, including work placements, research projects, industry training, social/community projects, new programme development, academic council, strategy committees, international collaboration, work-based learning, enterprise/ entrepreneurship, regional development, and various performance improvement initiatives.
Prior to working in GMIT he worked in a variety of industry sectors and positions in Ireland. He has also worked for a number of years in consulting roles with companies and organisations in Ireland and the USA.
Paddy is also currently Chair of the Board of Management at Claregalway College, and a board member of Creative Enterprise West (CREW). He is also involved in a number of 3rd level, regional and community organisations. He has previously been involved as External Examiner, School Review Panel member, and Adjunct Professor at 3rd level colleges in Ireland and the USA.
Paddy holds a BE (Hons) in Industrial Engineering, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and PhD (Engineering) from the National University of Ireland, Galway. He is also a recipient of the GMIT Presidents Award for Teaching Excellence.
