GMIT began offering furniture courses in Letterfrack in partnership with Connemara West (a community and rural development organisation based in North-West Connamara) in 1987.
Since 2006, teacher education programmes have been offered by GMIT Letterfrack.
Today, the campus has been designated as a National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, with many of its students winning national awards on a regular basis.
Campus Buildings
The new external campus buildings were designed by the internationally acclaimed O’Donnell + Tuomey, renowned for their work on other educational institutions such as the Saw Swee Hock student centre at the London School of Economics (2009).
The "old building" dates from the nineteenth century and has recently been restored and refurbished following conservation standards.
