Description

This module is designed to introduce learners to the broad financial principles and practical accounting applications relevant to starting a business. This module is practical and is designed to be applied to the particular industry the learner is working in.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Have a broad understanding of the nature, purposes, role and importance of the accounting function within business.

  2. Evince a knowledge of the nature of assets, liabilities and capital relevant to business start-up.

  3. Apply costing principles and terminology to a start-up initiative.

  4. Have a working knowledge of the sources and applications of finance.

  5. Prepare projected cash-flow, income and balance sheet statements.

  6. Demonstrate a practical knowledge of legal and taxation obligations relevant to a start-up initiative.
