Advances in Aquatic Biology and Ecology
Description
This course will provide the learners with detailed knowledge of the biology and ecology of aquatic species. The aim of the module is to build on biological modules at levels 6 and 7 so that the learner can describe the structure and functioning of aquatic organisms, adaptive strategies and interactions between species, the interactions between species and their environment.
Sustainable development topics referenced within the module include: Good Health and Wellbeing; Quality Education; Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure; Climate Action; Responsible Consumption and Production; Clean Water and Sanitation; Life Below Water; and Life On Land.
Learning Outcomes
Appraise the selective pressures that have resulted in the biological strategies employed by aquatic species
Evaluate the potential impact on aquatic ecosystems of disturbances to physical, chemical, and biological processes.
Appraise the techniques and methodologies available to address current questions in marine and freshwater biology
Synthesise and critically evaluate information from a range of sources to arrive at a comprehensive understanding within the area of specialisation.
Identify gaps in current understanding and directions for future scientific research
