Advancing Cath Lab Practice

Description

The overall aim of this module is to develop students’ theoretical and practical knowledge in Interventional Cardiology Nursing. This module is focused on advancing the role of the nurse in the Cardiac Cath Lab with specialised core topics such as management of the patient undergoing an interventional procedure; strategies for optimising interventional therapies; technical skills' development; fundamentals of radiation safety; ECG analysis; and management of critical situations.

 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Define and differentiate the various interventional cardiology procedures and therapies. 

  2. Appraise evidence-based practice and current guidelines to meet individual patient needs. 

  3. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge and technical skills required to assist in the Cardiac Cath Lab. 

  4. Critically evaluate the care of patients undergoing interventional cardiology procedures, throughout the patient journey. 

  5. Recognise and formulate the optimal strategy to assist in managing procedural related complications. 

  6. Critically evaluate and interpret 12 lead ECG and rhythm strip recordings with reference to clinical data and identify further clinical assessments necessary to support findings.
