Applied Physiology and Pharmacology

Description

This module aims to equip the student with an integrated view of normal physiology, pathophysiological compensations to disease processes and pharmacological mechanisms of drug actions. Particular focus will be on the more chronic, morbid conditions.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically discuss the role of physiological systems in maintaining homeostasis

  2. Relate the effects of physical illness on homeostatic mechanisms within the body.

  3. Describe the mechanism of action of drugs on body systems by way of the drugs’ interactions with the pathophysiology of the disease

  4. Discuss the contribution of routine blood testing to understanding the pathophysiology of disease processes.
