Description

This module provides an introduction to the historical development and impact of broadcasting in Ireland and the debates that surround the future of this medium.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Interpret the development of broadcasting in Ireland and its relationship with contemporary culture and society.

  2. Critically analyse the power of television, and other small screen media, and the ethical debates and responsibilities surrounding the medium.

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the regulation of television in terms of national and European policies on broadcasting.

  4. Demonstrate an understanding of mass communication theory and culture.

  5. Recognise the broader impact of amendments of policy in terms of the audience.
