Why Study?

When you walk past a building site do you look beyond the perimeter hoarding? Do you think of the planning and cost analysis that have to go into organising the whole site?

This programme provides you with the technological, financial and managerial education foundations to enable you, in time, to direct the total construction process.

The practical and administrative training you will gain will enable you to communicate with craft, technical and managerial staff.

Programme Modules

In the first year you will cover the basic topics concerned with the construction industry such as construction technology and surveying along with general topics like mathematics and science.

In the successive years, emphasis will turn towards building management, accounts and the financial side of construction.

Projects play a large part in the programme and are designed to reflect ‘real life’ projects in the industry by drawing on knowledge from various subjects like AutoCAD, surveying, estimating, structural design and site management.

Particular emphasis is placed on the use of up-to-date methods of construction, design and construction management.

Career Opportunities

Graduates find employment in the construction industry at middle management level. With experience they can progress to higher management positions in a short time.

Follow-on Studies:

A variety of options for progression are available for successful graduates to proceed, through an internal progression route, to year 4 of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Construction Management programme in GMIT or other institutes of technology or universities in Ireland and elsewhere.
