Organisations are also looking for people who have their finger on the pulse and can easily find solutions to an array of problems.
The Higher Certificate in Business programme provides students with the tools to achieve this and will also enable the student to act as agents of change in this ever evolving business world where they can use their knowledge and skills for problem-solving in a business context.
This certificate programme is an ideal introduction to contemporary theories and approaches to modern business practices. The programme also gives students a real view of the world of business.
The programme is designed to equip students with a range of knowledge and practical skills to facilitate success in any business situation and which will form the basis for commencing a career in general business or for progressing to higher level academic qualifications.
Students will also gain an understanding of the functional areas of business and of the factors which influence business success. Key areas of study include management, marketing, finance, human resource management (HRM) and law with an additional focus on communication skills, personal development skills and IT skills.
This programme will give the student a broad based business education to make them a versatile and employable graduate.

The Higher Certificate in Business enables students to progress to a career within a wide and diverse range of industries where a sound knowledge of relevant business and specialist disciplines such as management, marketing, finance, law, HRM, information technology and general administration is seen as an asset.
Graduates who continue their studies and gain suitable work experience can look forward to advancement to management positions.
Students successfully completing this programme can progress, through an internal progression route, to Year 3 of the Bachelor of Business (Level 7) and/or Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Financial Management programmes at GMIT Mayo.
For entry onto Year 3 of the Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Financial Management programme, students will be required to undertake accounting electives on the Higher Certificate in Business programme.
Progression is also possible onto level 7 programmes at other Institutes of Technology or Universities in Ireland or elsewhere.
Upon successfully completing Year 3, students can then apply internally for Year 4 of the following programmes in GMIT Mayo:
