Bachelor of Business - Rachel Walsh
A former Mercy Convent Galway student, it was a visit from the GMIT School Liaison who enticed Rachel to consider GMIT as an option for 3rd level education. A natural grá for maths in secondary school paved the way for her entrance into a BA in Business and she found her feet immediately in Accountancy.
A little nervous and not sure what to expect upon entering into her course in first year, her initial experience at GMIT was very positive.
“It was nothing like what I anticipated. It was so much more relaxed than secondary school. I felt a lot more independent, and felt like I had to freedom to study subjects I was really interested in.”
Rachel, also a Student Ambassador, is hoping to do a summer internship at Google next summer. She has her sights set on working for a large multi-national company once finished her degree and understands the importance of work experience on her CV.
“What stands out the most about my overall experience at GMIT to date, is the helpfulness of all the employees. Those in Student Services and the Students Union cannot do enough to help us out, no matter how big or small the crises is – even the lecturers respond to requests very fast! In addition to that, I just love how much room there is on campus is here in Galway – it never feels too crowded and there is always room in the library.”
