CNC Technology

Description

The focus of this module is to introduce students to the processing capabilities of a range of large scale CNC production equipment allowing them an understanding of the processing capabilities of these machines. The module has two main elements, lectures covering the theory and safety of machine operation and computer labs covering the use of CNC software in conjunction with CNC Routers.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Create virtual components using CNC simulation software.

  2. Plan, organise and manage the setup and operation of a variety of advanced CNC woodworking machinery

  3. Outline the Health and Safety issues relation to advanced woodworking machinery and tooling

  4. Appraise different tooling options in relation to cutting materials and feed speeds for specific processing applications

  5. Assess and define the processing capabilities of large scale production equipment

  6. Evaluate processing operations in relation to machine suitability, jig design, tooling requirements.

  7. Carry out parametric programming, nesting and manipulation of G Code
