Computerised Instrument Systems

Description

This module investigates and applies the key methods of communication between computers, sensor/transducers, signal sources, and test and measurement equipment.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, operation and limitations of digital sampling, digital systems and associated analogue circuitry.

  2. Describe the role of various digital circuits/devices and design circuits for appropriate specified applications.

  3. Describe and assess the various computer interfacing standards and techniques. Evaluate emerging interface technology in automated test and measurement systems.

  4. Select and apply key methods of field and laboratory instrument control.

  5. Use computer-interfacing systems to set up data acquisition and control systems. Select and apply digital sampling and signal conditioning techniques to a range of sensors.
