GMIT Centre for Creative Arts and Media

Textiles Student - Mona Sweeney

Mona Sweeney

I chose GMIT because I heard good reviews about their honours degree add-on in Textile Design, which is offered at their Centre for Creative Arts & Media (CCAM) in Galway.

The main thing which drew me to the course in GMIT was the option to specialise in different areas.

Other courses require students to specialise in one are such as embroidery, print or weave.  In GMIT, we are given the opportunity to master a range of techniques, giving us a more comprehensive understanding of different processes, and a more advanced skill set. The course  also encourages the pursuit of both Textile Art and Textile Design.

Another factor in my decision was the defined employment roles available to graduates.  When I graduate I will be seeking employment in the textile design industry with the intention of setting up my own business in the future.
