Critical Theory 4: Theory and Practice Seminars

Description

This module draws together students from the 2D and 3D fine art pathways and creates a critical dialogue around the values and divergences between the different working practices and philosophies. The aim of this module is threefold. First, to enable learners to confidently integrate key themes and issues in art historical and critical discourse with a consideration and presentation of their own studio practice. Second, for learners to consider and discuss their practice with their tutor and fellow students through the seminar format. This entails considering their own practice in relation to themes and issues defining other specialist areas of practice within CCAM, and, how their work relates to wider cultural concerns. Thirdly, to consolidate all learning to date through a professional seminar presentation based on the student’s studio practice and a final artists' statement. These seminars are in marked contrast to studio based seminars in that the emphasis is placed more on contextualizing work in relation to the wider cultural field and less as an investigative critique of working processes, technical considerations and the future development of practical work.
