Dissertation

Description

This module requires students to complete a research dissertation, which aims to develop independent research, writing, communication and presentation skills. The student is required to undertake approved research in a systematic and scientific manner. Each student will be appointed a supervisor with whom s/he will meet for regular tutorials throughout the academic year. The dissertation will be carried out throughout the duration of the academic year. On completion of the work, the dissertation will be assessed by the appointed supervisor, as well as a second member of academic staff.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify an area of study where he/she can undertake research in a systematic and scientific manner.

  2. Undertake this research efficiently, in a manner which ensures that the area of research is of suitable size and complexity and will enable the learner to develop a solution, recommendations or conclusions.

  3. Apply the knowledge he/she has acquired in the areas of Education, Creativity, Technology, Design and Communication Graphics and Architectural Technology or Art, to the further investigation of a topic with a view to enhancing and improving his/her understanding and knowledge of this area.

  4. Produce a well-written, concise, accurate and definitive dissertation which demonstrates a clear understanding of the area of research and evidence of a complex mastery of the subject matter.

  5. Demonstrate an ability to clearly and concisely explain their research area and methodology.

  6. Manage his/her work volume professionally and creatively and in an independent manner.

  7. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the task undertaken and also the scientific method of investigation.
