The course provides students with technical expertise in the areas of sustainable building technology and project management. The areas include a wide range of sustainable building technologies such as low energy and passive buildings, renewable energy systems and energy and environmental assessment methods. There are also modules on construction informatics which include CAD and Building Information Modelling (BIM) and project management.
Opportunities exist for graduates in the following areas:

- Government Bodies/Local Authority/OPW
- Quantity Surveying
- Health and Safety
- Forensic/Defect Investigation
GMIT honours (Level 8) qualifications are recognised worldwide for postgraduate entry.
The programme also requires the completion of a year-long cross-modular retrofit project.
