Civil Engineering Graduate - Eanna Doolin

In May 2011, I graduated with a B. Eng. (Hons) in Civil Engineering. I completed the three year B. Eng. (Ord) Civil Engineering programe in GMIT in 2009 and decided to undertake the honours degree because I was familiar with the college and staff and enjoyed the practical nature of the programme. In particular, I enjoyed the industrial work placement which we completed in third year of the ordinary degree. The final year of the honours programme was very challenging at times.

It is only now, being out in the workplace, that I can fully appreciate the quality of the tutorials and lectures we received throughout my time at GMIT.

On completion of the programme I moved to London and am now working with J Coffey Construction. Having started out as a Site Engineer, I am now looking after my own projects and my most current project is the Great Northern Hotel in King’s Cross. I have no doubt in my mind that were it not for the excellent mix of both the practical and theoretical tuition received during my time in GMIT, I would not be in the position I am now.

The high standards expected by our lecturers prepare each student for a career in Civil Engineering in which only high standards are accepted. These standards are put in place by lecturers who have invaluable experience and 'know how' of the construction industry and how it operates.
