European History Field Studies
The aim of this module is to demonstrate the importance of how first-hand field explorations can enhance one’s knowledge and understanding of the history, heritage and cultural identity of a major European city (e.g. Berlin).
(a) Gain a vivid understanding of the patterns of a European city's evolution (over space and through time) and familiarise themselves with its urban history and built heritage (including its streetscape, architectural characteristics and public memorials).
(b) Unravel the key traits of the city's 'personality' by conversing with its inhabitants and observing the types of places and spaces that define their lifeworlds.
(c) Understand how the city is promoted as a heritage tourist attraction and comprehend the vital role that museums, galleries and other attractions play in representing the city's story.
