Forensic Chemistry 1

Description

This module will give the learner the opportunity to apply their scientific training to a number of key areas in Forensic Chemistry. Specialists areas of study will include, drug identification and forensic drug analysis.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Compare classes of forensic drugs and their origins

  2. Explain the logic behind the choice of reactions and reagents used in organic synthesis including the approach used to devise synthetic routes to organic compounds

  3. Examine the use of stable isotope analysis for drug analysis and other forensic applications

  4. Evaluate the chemistry of illicit drug manufacture

  5. Investigate drug profiling and impurity profiling as a means to understanding drug supply chains through forensic chemistry

  6. Discuss suitable analytical techniques for drug analysis and the determination of their source of manufacture
