Gender and Organisations

Description

The module is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of gender related issues in a variety of contemporary organisational contexts, both national and international. Issues to be addressed include: gender in management, leadership and decision making; impact of gender on career patterns and on work-place design; managing gender diversity. The module should enhance students’ ability and confidence to participate in the design and implementation of mechanisms for managing gender diversity in organisations.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply conceptual reasoning to gender related issues in the context of  work, organizations, management and professional development, including historical, cultural and legislative dimensions;

  2. apply an in-depth knowledge and understanding of, and critical perspectives on, contemporary gender related issues in the workplace and in organizational management;

  3. participate with confidence in the design and implementation of mechanisms for managing gender diversity in organisations and for ensuring the full and balanced development of people in the context of promoting organizational success;

  4. draw upon a critical awareness of current and emerging research and issues relating to gender in organisations and management.
