Description

This module covers the use of GIS for Agriculture & Environmental Management students. The learners will study how to apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the the context of Rural Enterprise and Environmental Management. This will be achieved through a combination of practical exercises and case studies to develop GIS skills, coupled with critical thinking, the interpretation of data and using GIS outputs as a decision support tool.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe elements of a GIS and the application of GIS in an agriculture and environmental management context.

  2. Demonstration of practical GIS skills- data acquisition, management, manipulation and analysis, presentation and output

  3. Provide evidence of ability to exercise judgement in selecting or creating appropriate data, analysis techniques and interpretation of results

  4. Demonstrate an ability to direct their own learning in the development and application of GIS to problem solve in a rural enterprise and environmental management context
