The GMIT Architectural Technology Student Exhibition 2018 will be officially opened at 6.30pm on Thursday, 24th May in the Cafe Foyer at GMIT Galway campus, Dublin Road, Galway.
The exhibition will run until the 13th of June, 2018.
The exhibition includes work from Years 1 - 4 on the B.Sc. (Hons) Architectural Technology programme.
The work on display will include:
Year 1 student work:
Selection of work from Architectural Technology students from a range of modules mainly Detail and Design Studio, Architectural Technology and Architectural Graphics and Communications.
Sample projects from various students include a timber framed garden room and various construction drawings for a contemporary house which was originally designed by Liston Architects.
The first year prize for the best house project is sponsored by Xtratherm Insulation
Year 2 student work:
The range of drawings on display highlight our students' ability to document, detail and prepare working drawings for timber and steel framed structures.
The drawings are a mixture of scaled freehand sketches, Autocad and REVIT drawings from the Studio and Architectural Technology modules.
Also on display are projects on Architectural Conservation Areas in Galway and samples of their history of architecture sketch books.
The prize for the best studio project is sponsored by Moy Materials.
Year 3 student work:
Each third year student has prepared an exhibition poster which showcases their best Studio work from this academic year.
The third years have one main studio project - this year it is a mixed use building located in the Docks in Galway consisting of retail units on the ground floor and three levels of apartments over with basement parking under.
The prize for best project in Third Year is sponsored by Ecological Building Systems.
Year 4 student work:
The fourth year exhibition consists of a pair of AO posters prepared by each student which represents their approach to the sustainable upgrade, refurbishment and extension to a listed existing building - St Coleman's Hall in Gort.
Each student has researched a particular element of the building in depth and has presented their findings on their exhibition sheets.
The best project prize is sponsored by Vincent Hannon Architects.
There are various examples of BIM projects and virtual 'walkthroughs' prepared by the Fourth Year students on display.
We would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge the support of our sponsors for this exhibition - Xtratherm, Moy Materials, Ecological Building Systems and Vincent Hannon Architects.
