The Franco-Irish Forum on Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Tourism (FICAHT) takes place from Thursday 7 to Saturday 9 April 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

The 1st Cyber Research Conference Ireland (CRCI 2022) takes place on Monday 25 April 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

May 2022

The ATU DigitalEd Conference takes place on Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 May 2022, online and at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

June 2022

Centre for Creative Arts & Media End of Year Student Exhibition takes place from Friday 3 to Saturday 11 June 2022 at the Centre for Creative Arts & Media, ATU Galway City, Wellpark Road campus.

Letterfrack Student Exhibition takes place at the National Centre of Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, ATU Connemara campus (June 2022).

August 2022

The Aleen Cust Centenary conference takes place from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 August 2022 at the ATU Mountbellew campus. Read about it here.

September 2022

The Golden Jubilee exhibition, ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Technological Higher Education in the West of Ireland, 1972–2022’ opens on Thursday 1 September 2022 at the floor above Union Square, ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. This exhibition will run until 20 June 2023. A duplicate version will be displayed at Galway City Museum from Saturday 10 September 2022-Saturday 8 October 2022.

A live broadcast of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s Iris Aniar programme takes place in Union Square at 9:15-10:15 am on Friday 16 September 2022 at Union Square, ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

A lecture on ‘Regional Technical College Galway/Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology: A History in the Context of Public Policy’ by Bernard O’Hara take places in Room 1000 at 1-2 on Monday 19 September 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

The official opening ceremony of the Golden Jubilee commemorations takes place in Room 1000 at 4-5 pm on Monday 19 September 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus, followed by a flag-raising ceremony at the Southern Entrance at 5-5:15 pm, and a reception in the Café Foyer at 5:15-6 pm.

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the School of Business takes place in Room 1000 at 4 pm on Tuesday 4 October 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. Guest Speaker: Pat McDonagh, CEO and Founder of Supermacs.

November 2022

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the School of Design & Creative Arts takes place at 4 pm on Tuesday 1 November 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Wellpark Road campus. Panellists: Eibhlín NÍ Mhunghaile, Head of MEDIA Antenna/Creative Europe Desk Galway; Alan Esselmont, Director General, TG4; Lelia Doolan, Television Producer; and Celine Curtin, Head of Department, Centre for Creative Arts & Media, School of Design & Creative Arts, ATU Galway City.

The Golden Jubilee competition, ‘Sustainable Ideas: Addressing Contemporary Business Challenges’ (co-hosted by ATU, MTU and SAP) takes place in the Café Foyer (poster displays) and Room 1000 (short talks) at 9:30 am-12:30 pm on Tuesday 29 November 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. This event brings ATU and MTU’s School of Business staff and students together to showcase their poster designs and ideas around the theme of sustainability in digital media, mobile application design, and contemporary management. Staff from SAP Labs Ireland, which is also celebrating fifty years in business, will act as judges for the poster competition. Speakers include: Dr Orla Flynn, President, ATU; Liam Ryan, CEO, SAP Labs Ireland; Turlough Rafferty, iHub, ATU; Dr Breda Kenny, Head of School of Business, MTU; and Dr Meghann Drury-Grogan, Head of Department of Enterprise & Technology, School of Business, ATU Galway City. Winners and prizes will be announced after the talks.

December 2022

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the School of Engineering takes place in Room 1000 at 4 pm on Tuesday 6 December 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. The theme of this event, which will be chaired by Professor Graham Heaslip, Head of School of Engineering, is ‘Working in Engineering: How to Get a Job and Get Promoted!’. Panellists: Donal Collins, Research & Development Manager, McHale Engineering; Alan Heneghan, Production Manager, Boston Scientific; Pat Lawless, Vice President, Avaya Solutions & Technology; Helena McElmeel, Principal, Helena McElmeel Architects; Rachael Stewart, Director, Stewart Construction; Edel Tobin, Director, Simon J Kelly Architects.

The launch of Eilish Kavanagh and Mark McCarthy’s 'The Loughnane Brothers Heritage Trail: Explore Historic Sites & Memorials of Ireland’s War of Independence' takes place at 4:30-5:30 pm on Monday 12 December 2022 in the Wine Geese Training Bar, ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

A celebratory Golden Jubilee dinner takes place on Friday 16 December 2022 at the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill.

A retired staff Christmas celebration for retired staff takes place in the Canteen and Union Square at 3-5:30 pm on Tuesday 20 December 2022 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

February 2023

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the Galway International Hotel School takes place in Room 1000 at 4 pm on Tuesday 7 February 2023 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. The theme of this event, which will be chaired by Jacinta Dalton, Head of Department of Culinary Arts & Service Industries, is “Hospitality and Humanities through the Years”. Panellists: Ciara Enright, Wedding Planner & Coordinator; Paul Gosling, Retired Staff; Joe Loughnane, Retired Staff; Johnny O’Sullivan, Group Operations Director, Hodson Bay Group; Derek Spillane, Business Owner & Tour Guide; Kevin Thornton, Business Owner & Award-Winning Chef.

A memorial service for deceased staff and students takes place at the Memorial to Deceased Staff and Students at 1-1:40 pm on Thursday 23 February 2023 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus, followed by light refreshments in the Café Foyer at 1:40-2:10 pm.

March 2023

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the School of Health Science, Wellbeing & Society takes place at 4 pm on Tuesday 7 March 2023 at the ATU Mayo campus. Speakers: Dr Yvonne McDermott, Lecturer, ATU Mayo, ‘The Role of the Asylum and St Mary’s Hospital: A Historical Perspective’; Dr Michele Hardiman, Practice Development, Education and Research Facilitator, Galway Clinic, ‘Person Centeredness’; Lynda Huxley, Conservationist, ‘The Green Agenda in Action’.

April 2023

The official opening of the Eddie Fox Resource Room in memory of Eddie Fox, who founded the college’s Archaeological, Historical & Folklore Society in 1977 takes place at 4:30 pm on Monday 17 April 2023 in the Eddie Fox Resource Room, ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus.

“Celebrating 50 Years of Culinary & Hospitality Education”, hosted by the Galway International Hotel School, takes place on Wednesday 26 April 2023 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. A reception takes place in The Wine Geese Bar at 5 pm, followed by dinner in the Connemara Training Restaurant. Proceeds will support a Food Cloud / ATU Student Food Bank initiative.

May 2023

LEGACY: A Golden Jubilee Fireside Celebration hosted by the School of Science & Computing takes place in Room 1000 at 4 pm on Tuesday 2 May 2023 at the ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. The theme of this event, which will be chaired by Dr Seamus Lennon, Head of School of Business,  is “The Societal Impact of Science”. Panellists: Dr Heather Lally, Senior Lecturer, ATU Galway City; Dr Ian McLoughlin, Senior Lecturer, ATU Galway City; Dr Róisín Nash, Senior Lecturer, ATU Galway City; Dr. Cormac Quigley, Senior Lecturer, School of Science.

A staff barbecue takes place at 1:30-3:30 pm on Monday 19 June 2023 at the Visitor Carpark, ATU Galway City, Dublin Road campus. Access via the Southern Entrance.
