Health Policy

Description

The Irish Health Care system is underpinned by policies and legislation that aim to achieve maximum population health. Appropriate knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and strategies is critical to understanding how the health services operate and develop for the short, medium and longer term. The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of structures and trends within the current Irish Health Care System

  1. Critically discuss the importance of health policy and the theoretical perspectives on the process of policy formulation.

  2. Outline the current development of health policy in Ireland .

  3. Critically discuss the current debate on the most effective means of meeting health care demands.

  4. Discuss the concepts of consumerism and citizenship within the context of current health and welfare policies.

  5. Critically evaluate health and social inequality in Ireland.
